Our innovation activity directly supports the delivery of secure systems and services to our customers.
Through programmes like the KESS II research programme, the Welsh Government’s SMARTCymru, and their current SMART Flexible Innovation Support (SFIS) programme, we have developed NetOps, SecOps, SIEM and SOAR service offerings designed to improve visibility, scalable delivery and reduce adoption friction.

Building the next generation of cyber security capability
As part of our commitment to strengthening the UK cyber ecosystem, we actively invest in skills and talent development.
We sponsor PhD candidates in cyber security and digital technologies, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and training, MSc support and mentoring, and professional development programmes. We have also been proud to supporters of the CyberFirst programme, working as an industry partner with Corpus Christi High School. Through this partnership, we helped inspire and develop young talent by providing insight into real-world cyber security careers, supporting STEM engagement, and contributing to a stronger, more diverse future workforce.
Our postgraduate researchers work alongside experienced engineers on live challenges, gaining valuable industry experience while contributing to innovation in defence and public sector systems.

Industry Engagement
We actively engage with the wider cyber security and defence community to stay at the forefront of emerging challenges, share expertise, and contribute to the development of the UK cyber ecosystem. Our team regularly participates in industry conferences, events, and forums, with senior engineers and leaders contributing to panel discussions, delivering presentations, and sharing insights on cyber security, network engineering, and digital transformation.
We are proud members of the Wales Defence and Security Cluster (WDSC) and are active participants in the regional cyber community through industry Cyber Roundtables, BSides Cymru and CymruSec.
Our research and technical teams also contribute to industry and academic collaboration forums, including participation in industry roundtables and stakeholder sandpit discussions hosted by Swansea University, Cardiff University’s Data Science Academy conferences, and University of South Wales’ graduate exhibitions.
In addition, our leadership team plays an active role in promoting diversity and inclusion within the sector. Our Capability Lead hosts the Women in Cyber Security breakfast at CyberUK, supporting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of a more inclusive cyber workforce.
Through these activities, we ensure that ITSUS remains connected to the latest industry developments while contributing to the advancement of network and cyber security across defence and the public sector.
